Kyoto Arashiyama Hanatouro 2008

The word, Hanatouro is made two words, Hana mean flower, it is called Ikebana flower arrangement is displayed in spots Saga-Arashiyama area, and touro mean lighted up road, it is lighted up the Saga-Arashiyama area’s road by Japanese lamp.

Highlight is lighted up Togetsukyou bridge, bamboo forest, Saga-Arashiyama’s nature and flower arrangement.

Please enjoy Kyoto Arashiyama’s night.

Kyougen in Togetsutei


A Noh comedy called Kyougen is traditional entertainment of ancient Japan.

Originally this traditional art were part of Noh, but now Kyougen is becoming the independent art

Kyougen is simple, plain, and fun.

Would you feel the Kyougen?

Access to Kansai-Airport Station from Kansai International Airport by Railway.

When you go through the immigration, you will see a signboard.

You will go along a signboard to second floor.

When you go to Station’s inside, you will see a ticket vendor machine of left side and a ticket barrier of right side.


When you go through a ticket barrier and go down the stairs, you will see a JR Haruka express.

Summer’s Daikakuji-Temple’s Pond

Daikakuji-Temple has a pond called Oosawanoike.



Oosawanoike-pond has a carp, a grass carp, a duck, a soft-shelled turtle called SUUPON, and the ancient lotus.



The ancient lotus covered surface of part of pond and bloomed central of pond.



Would you feel end of the summer in Daikakuji-Temple?

A traditional summer event on 16 August

Summer event to be called Okuri-bi

Okuri-bi(Five Mountain Send-off Bonfire)
This traditional event represents the end of summer in Kyoto.
On August 16th, at five mountain locations, Japanese letter shaped areas are set alight to guide sprits back after visiting their old homes.

That sentence quotation from pamphlet of Kyoto Prefectural Government publication.

First fire is Daimonji on Mt nyoigatake.
Second fire is Myouhou on Mt nisi and Mt higashi.
Third fire is Funagata on Mt myoukenn.
Fourth fire is HidariDaimonnji on Mt daimonnji.
Fainal fire is our area Arashiyama on Mt mandara, can you see a holy fire.

A traditional summer event on 23, 24, August.

The Sentoukuyou is traditional summer event of Arashiyama- Sagano area and the Sentoukuyou of Adashinonenbutuji-temple is traditional religion event too.
The Adashinonenbutuji-temple was established since 1,100 years ago.

Those days when the temple was established this area was burial area for people.
Therefore this temple’s precincts have Buddha of stone and tombstone of several thousand.
23, 24, August of every year, this temple hold a service there stone for the light of the candle.






In addition, around the Adashinonenbutuji-temple is veiled in a garden lantern.






The fantastic scene has great value to see.

A traditional summer event on 31 July

Sennichi-mairi is a traditional religious summer event of Arashiyama and it is light mountain climbing event which will be held on 31 July mid-nights on Mt, Atago.

The reason why people climb Mt, Atago?
Because there is Atago shrine on the top of the mountain and that is believed “God of fire”.

Climbing Mt, Atago on 31 July means to receive divine favor.

The God of Atago shrine will protect people who climb the mountain for 1,000 days from fire disaster. In addition, people take their children under three years old to the top of the mountain as well, because people believe that the God will protect them from fire disaster for lest of their lives.

Cormorant fishing

Do you know the cormorant fishing?

Cormorant fishing is a pastime that gives poetic charm to summer in Arashiyama.

Using trained cormorant (shags) to catch fish is an ancient Japanese method.

Fisherman hang small fires from the fronts of their boats with metal frames and use the light to aid in handling the birds.

Access to Togetsutei from JR Kyoto Station by Bus and Taxi

By Bus.

There are some bus company in Kyoto.
A general bus company's name of those are Kyoto bus and Kyoto city bus.


No.83 of Kyoto bus.
from a stop No.C6(JR Kyoto Station Karasuma Central Exit)
(Kyoto Station → 27stops → Nakanoshima koen : about 40~50 minutes raid.)
One way 240yen.
One minutes walk, when you get off the No.83 of Kyoto bus.

No.71 No.72 No.73 of Kyoto bus.
from a stop No.C6(JR Kyoto Station Karasuma Central Exit)
(Kyoto Station → 21stops → Arashiyama : about 40~50 minutes raid.)
One way 240yen.
5 minutes walk, when you get off the No.71 No.72 No.73 of Kyoto bus.
You can see the Togets-Bridge, you go across it.

Access to Togetsutei from JR Kyoto Station by Railway

The way, Arashiyama Togetsutei from JR(Japan Railway Conpany) Kyoto Station by Railway.
When you arrived at JR Kyoto Station,Please you will go to 33rd or 34th platform of Sagano Line.

a local train.(about 20 minutes raid)
